A Consolation Prize

Any walk, along any river can be very special. There is so much wildlife that is attracted to bodies of freshwater that a sighting of something new is always a possibility.
Today’s walk along the River Stour was for two reasons, the Otters that this area is pretty famous for and the Kingfishers. It is funny that these beautiful, painted little birds become something of a consolation prize if Otter sightings are scarce but you soon forget any feelings of disappointment. Watching a Kingfisher is a wonderful experience and for me, it always will be. They are impossibly pretty, especially when sunlight makes the neon streak on its back explode in a show of blue that really needs to be seen to be appreciated. Their colour though is only part of the story and watching these birds fish is as incredible as it is addictive. For a consolation prize, they do rather nicely.
