U.F.O.

I am not known for my identification skills, but after a while trawling through reference books, I have decided that this is a moth. If anyone has any other names for it, please feel free to let me know.

Looks as if it could be one of the hawk moths, to me.

Thanks both of you. Someone mentioned that it could be an Angle Shades Moth! I really should do some homework.

Coudl well be - given the crimpiness of the bottom of the wings; I was just going by the colours and pattern, but it's a great picture. Looking up the Angle Shades moth on Google, I've found a chrysallis like that several times in the garden, so thanks, I know what it is now :)

It does look like the photo of the Angle Shades moth in "Moths of Trigon" by Chris Manley. According to his notes, it feeds on "anything, any time"!!!
