The Dragon's Lair

Today I had the chance to go inland and explore an area that I don't know very well. I knew that it would be a place of beasts and bugs and also knew that it would be foolish to wander around uncovered and unprotected against the very worst of our local flying biters!

So, shorts and a t-shirt it was then!

The day started warm and was set to get warmer so the area would be literally buzzing with all manner of moths, flies and butterflies with the floor hiding many a cricket or grasshopper. I couldn’t get there early so I had to contend with these creatures all fully charged by the Sun and as active as they were going to get.

Butterflies are always fun to photograph, I like the flies too but It is the dragons that I really go for, closely followed by the crickets. After a couple of hours in the heat and after yet another fly decided that I looked like lunch, I called it a day and headed for somewhere cooler.

Sunday Morning: Raindrops and Macro.

Low cloud, plenty of moisture in the air and even more on the ground, but it was a lovely morning for a walk. There wasn’t a great deal of wildlife around but what there was needed the macro lens. Using the macro is always something I look forward to and it gives a whole new perspective to my patch.

Our local Roe deer do not number very many and they are always a treat to see and photograph. The light for the first photos wasn't great but a return visit, in the evening, made things a little better.

Sunshine and Showers

It has been a funny old week, the weather doesn't really know what to do next and we have had far too many 'white-grey' skies. Not great for any photography, landscapes look washed out and wildlife just looks dull. We have taken the Purbeck Footprints Roadshow out on a few trips though and it is always good to meet and talk to like-minded people (selling a few photographs doesn’t hurt either) and I am always proud of how good our mobile gallery looks.

When the Sun does come out though I head for the cliffs or the hills. We have so many great views around here that you are spoiled for choice but I like walking high above the valley or the sea.
