Tuesday morning - Dolphin O'clock.

Walking the cliffs on a beautiful blue sky morning is always good and at this time of year with the bird count growing and the Sun feeling warmer, it just gets better. On several occasions lately we have been treated to the welcome sight of Dolphins as they pass by and whilst any sighting is wondeful they can be difficult to photograph. This morning I saw a pod of about ten animals swimming west but they were past me before I could even aim the camera and so in all of the shots they were swimming away from me. Great to see though, a real 'feel good' animal.

Taking photographs of wild animals and birds in their own environment is always a challenge. Finding the creature can be difficult, getting in position to make the best use of available light is not always straight forward and of course the weather can play a serious part. That being said, I don't think it is to much to ask that the Peregrine sits still for just 1/500th of a second!

A Friday Visitor

We had a wet first walk this morning, just the dogs and I, with the camera staying at home in the dry. Once that was done and the kettle was put on I had to concentrate on some picture framing, a job I enjoy doing when I am in the right mood, but sometimes I get distracted.
It was at that point when I had a visitor and the framing had to wait....

13 Miles As The Crow Flies

The walk between Anvil Point Lighthouse and Lulworth Cove is not an easy one. Thirteen miles as the crow flies but plenty more than that when you take in to account of the ins and outs of the many bays and hills. It is not particularly straight forward either because the Range Walks that pass through Ministry of Defence land are not always open and the diversion will add even more miles to your walk. What you can be sure of, if you walk the full distance in one go or split it to sections, is that the views you will be treated to are amongst the finest you will find anywhere.

Meet the Twins

Foxes have always been a firm favourite of mine. I can and do spend hours looking for them and, when I find them, watching and learning as much as I can.
This morning I found two cubs, both very young, playing in the Sun just above the cliffs. They got bored before I did nd disappeared beneath the gorse.

Skylark Hide & Seek

Trying to take photographs of Skylarks is hard enough when they are flying, a small bird in a big blue sky, but when they land things become really interesting. Either they are hiding in the long grass or sitting in a field surrounded by mud and stones.

The Avocet Shot

Apart from shots of Red Squirrels on Brownsea Island, the other photos I wanted were of the Avocets, in particular a reflection of a single bird. It took a while, there were plenty of people about and birds were keeping were distance, but I quite like these.
