The local Sika deer are always willing to pose but the real bonus is being able to get up close and personal. Leaving the well trodden paths and settling into the bracken means, if you are patient and maybe a little lucky, you can really enjoy being with these beautiful animals.
The Isle of Purbeck is a peninsula on the southern tip of the the county of Dorset in England. The photographs I take, hopefully, help to express how I feel about this magical place and show you things which you may see if you come to visit. I am a full time, professional photographer and have a gallery in Swanage. Please feel free to click on the picture to see it larger or to look at my other photographs. www.purbeckfootprints.co.uk

Convenience Food
One of three Squirrels that currently use their feeder. I didn't take them long to figure it out!
Keeping Your Nuts Dry
It is wet, very wet and there is little worse than soggy nuts!
We have three Squirrels now and this is the only way to keep them off of the bird feeders! It is costing me a fortune in peanuts!

Not Todays Weather
Warm sunshine, a slight breeze and blue skies! What a difference a week makes, today the weather is.... different!
Fungus Amongus
I suppose there is one good thing about the damp conditions and that is the amount of fungi that keeps popping up.

Sticks & Stones
I have decided to try and take as many photographs as I can of 'things in front of Old Harry Rocks'!
Todays offering are the old pier supports and a Herring Gull on a very calm, bright Sunday morning.
Small Problems
There were a least three Nuthatches in the trees above us yesterday and each one refused to play!
I really like these little birds though and enjoy trying (and failing) to get a decent shot in the Sun.
I quite like this one though.

Reflected Chaos
Everything seems to be a little chaotic at the moment, and the dark evenings mean I can't get out after work.
I had a full week off work last week, with now plans except to get out with the camera and it already seems a long time ago!
Anyway, this is a shot from last week, of the waterlogged heath at Studland. Somewhere in this picture, the sky meets the water!

Eyes Down
A young Sika pretending to be shy. H ewas among a small group of ten or so, with a big old stag not too far away.

One Of Our Ferries Is Missing!
There were tears all around as the Bramble Bush Bay, the only link between the Isle of Purbeck and the main land (apart from the road), was towed to Southampton for her biannual wash and brush up! To hear people talk about her five week holiday you would think we were to be stranded here without food or water!
Shrapnel
The Green one wouldn't come out to play, but the Great Spotted Woodpecker stayed for quite a while. He made lots of noise and even more mess!
Headbanger
Woodpeckers are always good to watch, and this one didn't disappoint. We spent about half an hour together and he put on all his best 'woodpecker' poses.

More Turret Syndrome
The view from Durlston Castle is quite amazing, on a clear day you can see for miles and miles.
The Needles lighthouse is about sixteen miles away and the one at St.Catherine's Point at the southern end of the Isle of Wight is twelve miles further than that.
The limit of your view is perhaps the chimneys at Fawley which is about thirty miles away. Not bad for the price of a car park ticket and a cup of coffee!

Rocky!
There were plenty of birds in the bay this morning, but none quite as brave as the Rock Pipit. Peregrines, Kestrels and Buzzards flew overhead, but he seemed more than happy to sit with us for a while.
Fish Teeth & Wet Feet
We took a wander along Durlston Bay this morning, as the tide was going out. It is easy to get caught out by the sea here, so it is always good to do your homework and check the tide times.
That being said, we still managed to get wet feet and I tested the strength of the the camera by slipping on the rocks. This left more battle scars on the lens and, not quite as important, a little less skin on my arm.

The Journey To Work
As the Sun rises and starts to burn the mist away, Corfe Castle appears and gives an idea of what it must have looked like in years gone by.
This shot was taken on the way work the other day.
Quiet but never silent.
I missed the Sun this morning, not because I was late but because the early wander was done and dusted by the time the clouds cleared. When...
