The connection between mother and child is not
always straightforward and, with the Grey Seal, it doesn't last long.
Here though, within seconds of entering its world, the calf is well
aware of who mum is. We saw evidence of this connection on many occasions during the brief time we had watching the seals but the sight of it is always very special.
The Isle of Purbeck is a peninsula on the southern tip of the the county of Dorset in England. The photographs I take, hopefully, help to express how I feel about this magical place and show you things which you may see if you come to visit. I am a full time, professional photographer and have a gallery in Swanage. Please feel free to click on the picture to see it larger or to look at my other photographs. www.purbeckfootprints.co.uk

The Grey Seal
We have a couple of Grey Seals that frequent our little part of the world, but last weekend I went to the Lincolnshire coast to get a closer look at these incredible creatures.
I was accompanied by my brother, a chap who I don't see often enough and whose knowledge of wildlife I can only aspire to.
There was no skill involved in finding the seals, this is a well known place and at this time of year it can be very busy, but this is a special place to be. With the unexpected and eerie sounds of pup, cow and bull filling the air from before Sunrise, the sight of literally hundreds of individuals and the chance to get so close to a wild animal really cannot be underestimated.

Changeable Weather Conditions
It is difficult to get out with the camera when the nights draw in and the weather is far too complicated. The dogs still need to be walked though and even if I can't get out on my own I am out with them. I don't mind walking in the rain, if fact I quite like it, the problem is the camera and the fact that I don't ever like to leave it at home.
This weekend the weather was as changeable as ever but I managed a few shots. Fingers crossed for some
sunshine..

PURBECK, Issue 7
I am quite chuffed with this, it is issue 7 of PURBECK magazine and it has no less than five pages of my photographs. I think it looks great and it shows my photos off beautifully.

Focus on the Purbeck Roe
The Purbeck Roe Deer is special! They are a lot less common than our Sika
and are wonderful to see at any time of year. I can and do spend far too
long with these creatures and always keep an eye out when I'm
wandering. In my mind, there is no finer animal.

Red & White Deer
We do not see Red Deer on the Isle of Purbeck and the Fallow is a very rare visitor, although I have seen them here on a couple of occasions.
Seeing deer is always special and finding a big white buck, even more so!
Today I have seen four of our six species of wild deer and that is never a bad thing.

Focus on the Puffin
Puffins can be seen on the Isle of Purbeck but there are only a few and they are here for only a couple of months in the Summer. They are beautiful little birds and are always a pleasure to see and photograph. The shots were not taken here but on the western most tip of Iceland, a place that I found an instant connection with and somewhere that I must go back to as soon as possible.
