The Purbeck Air Show Part 3

The Purbeck Air Show Part 2

Dragonflies, Damselflies, Butterflies, Hoverflies and just about every flying beast are prime targets during the summer macro season. I always have a lot of fun and spend a great deal of time taking photographs of our smaller Purbeck residents.

Golden Evenings and Fallow Deer

Fallow Deer are beautiful animals and we rarely see them on the Isle of Purbeck.

Sunlight & Shadows

I have another walk to plan and this one involves waking the heathland. Now, our heaths are great to walk and there is always loads to see but I prefer to leave the well worn paths and follow the footprints of the locals. This beautiful Sika was just the right kind of local and we watched as she slowly wandered from sunlight to shadows minding her own business. There were plenty of Butterflies around too which always makes for good fun when you try to photograph them.

The path was not always clear

A Fox Addiction

Last night I could wait no longer and went off to find young Master Fox again. A week or two ago I decided that I had spent enough time with him and felt that I should leave him alone.
That didn't really last long, I think that I am ever so slightly addicted.
I got the impression that I was far more excited by our time together than he was.
Welcome back

The Fastnet From The Purbeck

Today at noon the yachts that sail the Fastnet race left Cowes on the Isle of Wight and headed west. If the wind is right some of these yachts take a route very close to the cliffs at Durlston, on the south east corner of the Isle of Purbeck. A friend of ours confirmed the times and so we headed for the cliffs.
Spindrift 2 was the lead yacht and he came in nice and close, giving us a fine view of this 40m long monster.

Dragons, Chasers, Darters, Damsels and almost an Adder

It is well and truly Dragonfly season and that means plenty of fun with the macro lens. Finding the Dragons is always the easy bit but getting close enough to get that shot takes a fair amount of patience. Don't get too carried away either because it is far to easy to lose your footing and end up in the same water that the Dragon came out of!

An Evening With The Sika

As the Sun goes down all you have to do is follow the squeaks and you will find Sika deer. It is a strange noise, slightly eerie, a cross between an old door hinge and a crying baby. Once you get used to it though the squeaks become somehow comforting, a fact that the Sika obviously realise as they settle down for the night.
There are plenty on the Isle of Purbeck, but they are a favourite of mine and I never get bored of watching them.

The Summer Coat

Quiet but never silent.

I missed the Sun this morning, not because I was late but because the early wander was done and dusted by the time the clouds cleared. When...
